Alex Thomson won the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in 1998/1999 at the age of 25, becoming the youngest winner of a round the-world sailing race. After breaking his foil in the 2016/17 Vendée Globe, he still finished second. In 2020, he had to retire. In 2024, he won’t compete because he wants to spend more time with his family. However, he does not rule out the possibility of returning to the Vendée Globe in 2028.
